In response to the ongoing federal government shutdown and the suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November, several food distribution events have been scheduled in Suffolk County.

On Saturday, November 8, Focus Church will hold a food distribution event at the north parking lot of William Floyd High School. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until supplies are depleted.

The following week, on Saturday, November 15, the William Floyd United Teachers (WFUT) will host their third annual 1,000 Coat Giveaway in the west gym of William Floyd High School. According to organizers, "The event will have coats, hats, gloves, scarves, Thanksgiving turkeys with all the fixings, and more! It will begin at 11 am until supplies run out."

Another opportunity for community support is scheduled for Saturday, November 22. The Suffolk County Police Department plans to distribute Thanksgiving meals from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until supplies last.

Residents seeking additional assistance can refer to a list of local food pantries compiled by the Suffolk County Department of Social Services.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
