A union plumber and his wife have filed a lawsuit against multiple entities, alleging serious violations following a catastrophic workplace injury.
The complaint filed by plaintiffs Mr. and Mrs. Stone accuses several organizations of negligence and discrimination in the aftermath of Mr. Stone’s injury at JFK Airport Terminal 6. Mr. Stone claims that he suffered a broken neck and spinal cord injury while working on an allegedly unsafe job site managed by Mace Contracting and Almar General Contractors. The plaintiffs assert that attempts were made to attribute the accident to Mr. Stone’s medical condition without proper investigation.
The complaint states that Jamaica Hospital Medical Center released Mr. Stone’s medical records without authorization to organizations involved in managing his workers’ compensation claim. The plaintiffs also allege discrimination based on race and disability, noting that Mr. Stone is diabetic and Black.
The plaintiffs seek $65 million in damages for alleged civil rights violations including HIPAA breaches, disability and racial discrimination, wrongful denial of medical care and workers’ compensation benefits, workplace negligence, and union misrepresentation. They claim these actions have caused significant physical, emotional, and financial harm.
Mrs. Stone is acting as fiduciary representative for her husband due to cognitive impairments resulting from his injury, and has requested court recognition of her authority to act on his behalf.
The plaintiffs are representing themselves in this matter. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York under Case No. 1:25-cv-05943-VMS.
