Town of Brookhaven honors William Floyd High School students for academic excellence

Twelve students from William Floyd High School will be recognized by the Town of Brookhaven Hispanic Advisory Board for their academic performance. The students, who maintained a cumulative grade point average of 97 or higher, will be honored at the 12th annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on October 10 at Brookhaven Town Hall.

The event will feature cultural music and food, and provide an opportunity for the honorees to meet other high-achieving students from various school districts in the area. The recognized students are Rodolfo Arias Lainez, Christopher Ortiz Rodriguez, Matias Diaz Acosta, Madison Villacis, Savannah Edwards, Arianna Caserma, Sophia Munoz, Joslyn Lawrence, Joline Vasquez, Justine Vasquez and Khrys Zapata. Fatima Hernandez also received the honor but was not present for the photo.

The Brookhaven Town Hispanic Advisory Board was created in 2013 with the goal of improving cultural understanding among the Hispanic community, civic and business leaders, local government officials and residents. According to its mission statement: "The mission of the Hispanic Advisory Board is to discuss and address issues of importance and relevance to the Hispanic community and make recommendations regarding proposed legislation to the Brookhaven Town Board."
