Carrie Farra has been named the William Floyd Alumni Association Outstanding Educator for the Class of 2025. Farra, who moved to Shirley as a child and attended William Floyd Elementary School, continued her education at William Paca Middle School and later at William Floyd High School. During her high school years, she was involved in several activities including serving as editor of the yearbook, class officer, and varsity cheerleader.
After graduating from high school, Farra married her high school sweetheart and raised two daughters who also graduated from William Floyd. She volunteered with the PTO at John S. Hobart Elementary School before deciding to return to college to pursue a degree in elementary education.
Farra began her teaching career as a substitute teacher in the William Floyd School District before becoming a full-time second-grade teacher at Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School. She later taught third grade for 18 years and currently teaches fourth grade after looping with her class.
Throughout her career, Farra has served as an English Language Arts ambassador for the district, helping develop literacy curriculum and providing professional development for other educators.
The award recognizes Farra’s commitment to building relationships with students and supporting their individual needs. According to the announcement, “Receiving this award reflects the profound impact Carrie has had on her students over the years. For her, teaching is not just about imparting knowledge – it’s about the relationships she builds and the positive influence she has on the lives of the children in her classroom. The students she teaches become a part of her story, and she is forever changed by knowing them.”
