Toasted Oysters, a locally owned oyster farm that's been a favorite of locals for years, based in Islip here in Suffolk County, will take the national stage next week as it showcases its harvest at the 2025 Ryder Cup, a global golf tournament, hosted at Bethpage State Park.

The company will appear as part of the Taste NY exhibit, setting up near the Cup Pro Shop on Friday, September 26, from 3–7 p.m.

Through Taste NY, a program highlighting the best of New York’s food and beverage producers, Toasted Oysters will join a curated group of local businesses offering samples and stories to thousands of spectators from around the globe.

Founded in 2023 by longtime friends Mike Miezianka and Ray Smith, Toasted Oysters was born from a pandemic-discovered passion for aquaculture that quickly turned into a thriving venture.

Miezianka—a Speonk native, Navy veteran, and retired NYPD detective—met Smith while working as an EMT. Their bond grew into hands-on training on established farms until they had mastered the ropes of the wholesale seafood business.

After launching their own operation in the Great South Bay, they joined a close-knit group of about two dozen oyster farmers and have recently begun expanding into direct-to-consumer markets.

Their oysters carry the New York State Grown & Certified label, reflecting strict environmental and safety compliance under the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation. That certification, combined with their growing reputation, helped secure a coveted Ryder Cup spot through an open call for vendors.

At the event, visitors can sample Blue Point oysters paired with original flavors and learn more about the farm’s journey.

You can check them out for yourself on Friday, September 26, at this year’s close-to-home Ryder Cup—fresh, local, and ready for the spotlight.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
