Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has been recognized as the top hospital for pediatric care in New York State by Money, and ranks seventh nationally on the publication’s 2025 Best Hospitals for Pediatric Care list.

Money evaluated more than 6,000 hospitals across the United States. The process began with hospitals that had earned four- or five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Their methodology included assessing provider experience with specific procedures through data provided by Denniston Data. Unlike some other rankings, Money also considered overall healthcare costs as part of its model.
Hospitals were given a Composite Ranking Score based on staff experience. To be eligible for consideration in pediatric care, facilities needed active pediatric specialists on staff.
The evaluation incorporated information from Stony Brook Children’s Hospital (SBCH), which is Suffolk County’s first and only children’s hospital. SBCH employs over 180 pediatric specialists across 30 specialties and serves as Suffolk County’s only Level 4 Regional Perinatal Center and Level 1 Regional Pediatric Trauma Center. It also houses several specialized programs such as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Center, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Center, Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity Center, Healthy Weight and Wellness Center, Cystic Fibrosis Center, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program, Pediatric Cardiology Program, and Pediatric HIV/AIDS Center.
