Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary highlights parent involvement under Title I program

Kevin Coster Superintendent | William Floyd School District

At Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School, staff, parents, and the community are working together to support student academic, social, and emotional growth. The school recognizes the home as a child’s first learning environment and sees parents as their children’s first teachers.

The school has emphasized parent involvement even before it was required by New York State regulation 100.11, which mandates including parents in school decision-making processes. Since the 2002/2003 school year, parents have been invited to participate in the school’s Title Parent Involvement Committee and the Parent Teacher Organization.

According to the school, “Through participation in these groups, parents are afforded a voice in helping to shape the decisions that are made to provide their children with programs and protocols that aid in their children’s academic, social and emotional growth.”

Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School continues to offer information about its Title I Compact, Policy, and Schoolwide Plan for families interested in learning more about its approach to supporting students.
