William Floyd School District holds annual summer enrichment program for student musicians

The William Floyd School District Music Department recently completed its annual Summer Music Enrichment Program. The program, led by Coordinator of Music Dr. Amy Sckipp, is designed for students who have finished grades 4 through 11 and provides an opportunity to continue music education during the summer.

Held over eight days in July, the program offered a variety of classes including chorus, guitar, and piano. Students participated in smaller classroom settings that allowed for more focused instruction. According to district officials, all student-musicians were engaged with their lessons and eager to further their musical education with peers.

Dr. Sckipp highlighted the commitment of both students and staff to music education as a reason for the strength of the district’s music department. "This dedication to music education by students, faculty and staff, is a strong example of why the William Floyd Music Department is so strong," she said.

The district’s music programs have received several awards over recent years. The department earned its third consecutive—and ninth overall—“Best Communities for Music Education” designation from NAMM in the past school year.
