William Floyd High School senior receives violin scholarship from Murphy’s Music

Kaelyn Green, William Floyd High School senior | William Floyd High School

William Floyd High School senior Kaelyn Green has been named a recipient of the Bob Murphy Violin Shop scholarship. The award, given by Murphy’s Music in Melville, provides Green with a new violin, case, bow, rosin, and a lifetime certificate for free instrument maintenance.

Kaelyn Green was chosen based on her written submission describing how music has influenced her life and her aspirations to study music and become a teacher. She is the third student from the William Floyd School District to receive this scholarship.

Murphy’s Music offers these scholarships as part of an ongoing initiative to support student musicians on Long Island by providing them with instruments. In her essay, Green highlighted her involvement in the William Floyd Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and the Brookhaven Academy of Music youth orchestra. She credited her teachers for inspiring her pursuit of music education.

Ms. Diana Brown Hoppe, Green’s teacher at William Floyd High School, praised Kaelyn’s dedication to practice. Dr. Amy Sckipp, coordinator of music for the district, also commended Green and said that having her own instrument will help make her goal of becoming an orchestra teacher possible.

Green participates in several musical groups at school including orchestra and chorus classes. She is also involved in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, International Thespian Society, and has performed in school drama productions such as Kodachrome and Guys & Dolls. Last year she received an invitation to perform at the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) event as one of the top string performers among students from various districts across Long Island.

“Congratulations, Kaelyn!”
