The William Floyd High School boys’ varsity soccer team spent part of their summer break participating in the 2025 Town of Brookhaven summer soccer league. The event allowed student-athletes to play competitive matches before the upcoming fall season, where they will attempt to reach the postseason for an 11th consecutive year. Competing in this league also gave the Colonials a chance to face teams they are scheduled to play during the regular season, including several League I opponents.
The Colonials entered this summer as defending champions of the Town of Brookhaven summer league. While they did not repeat last year's success, the team remained competitive throughout and enjoyed their experience.
Head coach Paul Paniccia led the team, with support from assistant coach Mike Podstupka and summer coaches Tony Guma, Lou Maurino, and Evan Meinke. The roster included Ryan Alvarez, Geovanni Calderon, Jhonny Calle, Jeferson Gomez, Esteven Gonzales, Johnathan Gonzalez, Darren Heitman, Justin Horne, Yael Jara, Michael Jara, Christian Jones, Ray Lampiasi, Jacobo Linares, Max Maurina, James McGrady, Jack Meyer, Joseph Mione, Daniel Palta, Kevin Ramos, Darwin Redondo, Fernando Redondo, Douglas Rios, Isai Rios, Christopher Rubio, Randy Salamanca, Caeleb Schultz, Aiden Tessatorre and Myles Von Brook.
In addition to playing in the summer league games with other local high school teams and rivals from League I schools over several weeks in July and August each year at venues organized by local municipalities such as Brookhaven (https://www.brookhavenny.gov/), the varsity boys’ soccer team also hosted a youth clinic during July. This clinic offered William Floyd students in grades K-5 an opportunity to practice with Coach Paniccia and members of the varsity squad. The experience was intended both for skill development among elementary students interested in soccer and for varsity players to mentor younger athletes.
"Through this clinic," reads a statement from organizers,"William Floyd students in grades K-5 with an interest in playing soccer have the opportunity to practice with Coach Paniccia and several members of the varsity team. It was a fun experience for the elementary school students and a great opportunity for the varsity team to help inspire and educate the William Floyd Colonials of the future!"
