Timothy Duckham Chief of Department | Smithtown Fire Department

At around 15:30, the Smithtown Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Landing Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found a significant blaze affecting the first and second floors and the attic.

Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack to contain the fire to its origin. About 75 firefighters participated in the response, including units from Smithtown Fire Department and Smithtown Fire-Medic Company. Assistance came from Kings Park, Commack, Hauppauge, Nesconset, Nissequogue, and Central Islip Fire Departments, along with Commack Ambulance and Stony Brook Ambulance.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries but was treated at the scene. The fire was controlled in approximately an hour and a half under Assistant Chief Palazzo's leadership and Chief of Department Daniel Dongvort.

Chief Dongvort stated: "I commend our members for their courage, dedication, and bravery while yet again protecting our community. Their actions today are a never-ending commitment to the Smithtown Fire Department."

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
