The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Stony Brook University recently held its annual Difference You Make Awards and Recognition ceremony. The event is dedicated to honoring the excellence and service of CAS students, faculty, and staff.

Dean David Wrobel hosted the ceremony, attended by over 120 guests. He highlighted several achievements from the past academic year, such as the Arts Everywhere initiative and an increase in events showcasing student research. Wrobel also mentioned efforts like workshops, seed grants, and fellowships aimed at supporting research and creative activities within CAS.

"This is a special community," he stated. "It rests on our celebration of each other’s success, our dedication to the mission of our college to be at the leading edge of Stony Brook’s research, student success, and social mobility initiatives."

Interim President Richard L McCormick also addressed attendees, acknowledging the event's significance since its inception in 2016. He praised those who have strengthened SBU through their academic leadership and camaraderie.

"When each of you took on your role within the College of Arts and Sciences," McCormick said, "you were likely cautiously optimistic about what your future would hold."

This year's honorees included recipients of various awards such as the Godfrey Excellence in Teaching Awards, John S. Toll Endowed Award for Excellence in Teaching, Staff Excellence Awards, CAS retirees for 2024-25 IDEA Grads, Guiliano Global Fellows, and members of the Dean’s Student Leadership and Advisory Council (DSLAC).
