Eight students from Suffolk County Community College have been honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. This accolade recognizes students who have shown exceptional achievements across various areas such as academics, leadership, and community involvement. It is regarded as the highest student honor within the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
Dr. Edward Bonahue, President of Suffolk County Community College, expressed pride in the students' accomplishments: “We take immense pride in the remarkable accomplishments of these outstanding students. These are students who are engaged in their home and college communities; they innovate, dream, and achieve. Their dedication and exceptional efforts underscore their extraordinary potential.”
The awardees include Carolina Leon Cadena from Commack, an Engineering Science major with a 3.9 GPA known for her leadership roles on campus; Eva Vyolet Denis from Port Jefferson Station, a Liberal Arts Philosophy major maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA; Udya Dewanamuni from Ronkonkoma, a Physics major also with a 4.0 GPA involved in interdisciplinary research; Dominic Llivicura from Mastic Beach, a Business Administration major active in various student organizations; Nancy Lorme from Holtsville, an Accounting major contributing to numerous clubs and volunteer efforts; Carolina Hernandez Alvarez from Riverhead, another Accounting major recognized for academic excellence and leadership awards; Julia Heller-Bomba from East Northport studying Creative Writing with significant contributions to student groups; and Nina Kezys also from East Northport, a Psychology major who has been selected for prestigious national academic teams.
Suffolk County Community College stands as the largest community college within the SUNY system with over 21,000 enrolled students and offers more than 100 degree programs. The college aims to equip its students with skills that meet regional employment demands through structured educational pathways.
