Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital both received an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2025 from The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization focused on patient safety. This grade is based on more than 30 performance measures concerning hospital errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, and assesses the systems hospitals have to prevent them.

"Earning these ‘A’ grades from The Leapfrog Group affirms our ongoing commitment to providing safe, high-quality care," stated William A. Wertheim, MD, MBA, Executive Vice President for Stony Brook Medicine. He credits the achievement to the dedication of the healthcare team.

Carol Gomes, CEO of Stony Brook University Hospital, highlighted the commitment of hospital staff, saying, "This top mark is a reflection of how deeply every member of the Stony Brook team cares about our patients."

Stony Brook University Hospital has achieved its second "A," while Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has earned its third consecutive 'A'. Emily Mastaler, Chief Administrative Officer at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, shared, "We are honored to have again earned the nation’s top distinction for patient safety."

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, remarked on the significance of this grade, noting it reflects "enormous dedication to patient safety."

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries. It is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and updated twice annually.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
