Stony Brook Southampton is partnering with The Jazz Loft to present The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series, featuring a lineup of five concerts this spring and summer. The series will showcase esteemed jazz musicians, including Grammy winners Dan Pugach and Nicole Zuraitis.

These performances aim to highlight both the historical and modern facets of jazz, offering a combination of entertainment and education. "The Jazz Loft @ Southampton is part of a vibrant spring and summer season that brings together our community, faculty, staff, and students around powerful themes—from jazz as a symbol of democracy to the legacy of Long Island's juke joints and the soul of Latin jazz," said Wendy Pearson, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Executive Director of Stony Brook Southampton.

The concerts will primarily take place at the Avram Theater, with one performance set under a tent on the athletics field. This marks the first jazz series held at the Avram Theater since Stony Brook University took over the management of the campus.

"I am thrilled for our new collaboration with Stony Brook Southampton and the opportunity to bring The Jazz Loft’s programming to the East End," said Professor Thomas Manuel, curator of the series and founder of The Jazz Loft.

The lineup features a variety of themed performances, including "Jazz As Democracy," "The Art of New," "Long Island Jazz Legends & Local Juke Joints," "The Spirit & Soul of Latin Jazz," and "Abstract Angularity." Each concert will focus on different jazz elements and collaborations with local cultural institutions.

Tickets for the series are available individually or as a series pass, with special pricing for seniors and Stony Brook students.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
