William Floyd honors 2025 fine arts wall of distinction recipients

The William Floyd School District's Fine Arts and Music departments held a ceremony to honor the 2025 class of Fine Arts Wall of Distinction recipients. The event took place near the Nick Poulos Auditorium at William Floyd High School, where the Fine Arts Wall of Distinction is located. This year, four individuals were recognized for their contributions to the fine arts: Stan Davis, Lucille Maier, Laura Mole, and posthumously, Barbara (Slane) Sapanaro.

Theresa Bianco, the Fine Arts chairperson at William Floyd School District, expressed gratitude during the event, stating, “The Fine Arts Wall of Distinction is an honor that has become a tradition in our departments. We have been able to acknowledge former William Floyd artists and musicians who have shared their expertise and love of teaching with the William Floyd community for many years. The stories are very humbling, but the message is always the same from our honorees, we are a family here at William Floyd and we are very lucky to have the support of such a wonderful community.”

The ceremony featured performances by student musicians, including the WFHS Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Diana Brown-Hoppe. Additionally, senior clarinet player Jacob White, accompanied on piano by Donia Rivera, and the William Floyd High School Acabellas performed for attendees. There was also student artwork from William Paca Middle School honoring Lucille Meier, a former teacher at the school and one of the 2025 honorees.

Special thanks were given to Dr. Amy Mason Sckipp, Coordinator of Music, Mrs. Bianco, and Nancy Slane, fine arts assistant, for their contributions to the event.

The honorees are permanently celebrated on the Wall of Distinction as a testament to their impact in art and music at William Floyd.
