William Floyd High School's senior cosmetology students recently hosted officers from the Suffolk County Police Department's 7th Precinct.

The event allowed students to practice their skills by providing officers with various hair services, including blowouts, braids, curls, and haircuts. This initiative offered students an opportunity to connect with local law enforcement while demonstrating their expertise in cosmetology.

"Special thanks to the 7th Precinct for their support of William Floyd students," read a statement from the school.

The William Floyd Cosmetology Academy is part of the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.

It offers a two-year course that includes 1,000 hours of instruction and practical experience necessary for New York State licensing in cosmetology. The curriculum covers hairstyling, hair coloring, haircutting, skin care, nail technology, make-up, braiding, chemical texturizing, and hair extensions.

The program also features guest speakers and industry events. Students who complete the course are eligible to apply for state exams in cosmetology.

William Floyd High School's CTE program provides eight academies in various fields and five pathways in business and technology.

These include Accounting, Architecture, Business Management, Engineering, and Microsoft Office Specialist. The academy offerings span Automotive, Barbering, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Home Design & Carpentry (including electrical and plumbing), Medical Assisting, Marine & Motorsports, and Certified Personal Trainer & Nutritionist.

The CTE program aims to prepare students for careers or further education by equipping them with practical skills.
