Stopping Illegal Aliens from Voting

Op-Ed by Assemblyman Joseph DeStefano

Thankfully, the state’s highest court shot down the attempt by New York City Democrats to allow illegal aliens to vote. The fact that they tried to usurp this sacred American right and we had to go all the way to the Court of Appeals to stop them should give pause to every New Yorker.

American citizens possess the right to vote in a country founded by patriots, protected by the brave men and women who served, and built by the blood, sweat, and toil of many ancestors. That someone can break our laws by coming into this country illegally and then be granted this precious right is a national travesty.

The Democrats are doing this for one reason only—power. By manipulating the electoral process, they can keep getting themselves elected. Running the state government, they can impose the highest taxes and fees in the country and use this money to enrich their supporters, families, and themselves. They want the illegals here so they can shovel billions of dollars of taxpayer money at them and get their votes. Their scheme is a disgrace, and anyone who supports it should be ashamed of themselves.

The Progressive Democrats realize they can’t get elected on their record or their ideas. People not beholden to them by getting government dollars would never vote for them. I don’t know anyone in favor of starting a crime wave by changing the bail system. Or allowing fentanyl and other illicit drugs to kill our kids. Or letting men in girls’ bathrooms or males competing against females in sports. Yet, that’s what they’re pushing. The voters don’t want men in women’s prisons, and they don’t want to pay for their sex change operations. They don’t want murderers and rapists killing young women, and they don’t want transnational gangs in their neighborhoods.

No one wants their hard-earned dollars squandered by conniving politicians. Those who can leave this mess are bailing out in record numbers. Those who can’t, vote, but their voice is drowned out, and it will be completely meaningless if the Democrats have their way by allowing non-citizens to vote.

Incredibly, those who fled tyrannical governments to come to America are recognizing what’s happening here. They see that the Socialist policies that wrecked their countries are taking hold, and they’re voting against them. President Trump ran on deporting criminal aliens and won. In fact, the border communities on the front lines of the illegal immigration assault went for him in a big way, with many voting Republican for the first time in decades.

Maybe the Democrats will ultimately fail in their strategy to flood our country with illegal immigrants so they can harvest their votes. But they’ll never stop trying, especially here in New York. Their party went to court to stop the Trump Administration from deporting Venezuelan gang members and found a Liberal judge who’s catering to them. This country’s ability to protect itself—and the right of citizens to control their own destiny—will eventually end up at the Supreme Court. Let’s hope they see clear to end this Constitutional crisis.
