Georgios Georgakis, MD, PhD, from Stony Brook University's Department of Surgery, has been accepted into the Society of Surgical Oncology's (SSO) 2025 Career Catalyst Mentorship Program (CCMP). This program aims to provide structured mentoring for mid-career surgical oncology leaders.

The CCMP was designed to establish long-term mentoring relationships. To qualify for the program, applicants must be active SSO members and have completed their surgical oncology training seven to fifteen years ago. The SSO also offers mentorship initiatives for residents and early career oncologists through its Foster the Future Program and Presidential Scholars Program.

Dr. Georgakis is the first from Stony Brook to join the CCMP. He will participate in the SSO 2025 Annual Meeting in Tampa Bay, FL, where he will be paired with a mentor from within the community. Additionally, he is expected to attend SSO 2026.

Over the next year, Dr. Georgakis will spend a week at his mentor's institution and engage in monthly webinars.
