Growing up in Southeast Texas, specifically in Beaumont, I have seen the impact of an open border. Although Beaumont is a great place to live, work, and raise a family, the previous Biden Administration had failed to secure the border. The results of this action have negatively affected many Texas communities and outside areas.
While Laredo is roughly 407 miles from the heart of Beaumont, the consequence of an unprotected border extends far beyond just Southeast Texas. For instance, the inflow of fentanyl, unauthorized immigration, and cartel activity present many challenges that demand attention.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott understands this reality. Through Operation Lone Star, Texas has taken action to combat this ongoing crisis. Since its launch in March of 2021, Operation Lone Star has led to:
* 531,500 illegal immigrant apprehensions
* 51,000 criminal arrests
* 43,700 felony charges
The seizure of 625 million lethal doses of fentanyl: This amount of fentanyl is enough to kill every man, woman, and child in America, Mexico, and Canada combined.
Just last week, law enforcement arrested 118 illegal immigrants in a raid at Colony Ridge, just 70 miles west of Beaumont. This highlights the importance, and need, of a strong leader. As the Commander in Chief, President Donald Trump continues to prioritize the safety of American citizens.
While Texas enforces a strict rule of law concerning illegal immigration, other states have taken a different approach.
Under former Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2017, New York has become a “Sanctuary State.” The result? Well, billions of taxpayer dollars have been used on housing and other services for illegal immigrants. In fact, conservative estimates from the Big Apple and federal government projected New York City alone to spend over $12 billion on these individuals. Plus, the Biden Administration has funneled millions into a New York City hotel to accommodate illegal immigrants. Under the leadership of President Trump, the Department of Homeland Security is attempting to “claw back” a $59 million payment that was meant to cover hotel costs for the migrants in this area.
There is hope for those of you living in or around South Shore and New York.
President Trump and New York Mayor Eric Adams have reached an agreement to house detained illegal immigrants at Rikers Island. This move will help expedite the deportations of those without legal status.
Furthermore, due to an Executive Order signed by our Commander in Chief, the unchecked flow of federal dollars supporting illegal immigration has finally been cut off.
When it comes to illegal immigration, Governor Greg Abbott stands out. Not only is he a respected leader, but he is someone who enforces the law. As a Texas resident, our state has put America first, and we are safer because of this.
For you in New York, be mindful of the federal and state elections that will occur in 2026. You will have the opportunity to elect leaders who can save your taxpayer dollars and protect your community.
Choose wisely, New York.
Texas did, and our state is better off.
Before concluding, I want to address nonviolent immigrants.
Although it can be hard to entirely understand your situation, I do have sympathy for you.
Living in this country illegally is a violation, and the law is the law. The Department of Homeland Security has committed to fully enforcing registration requirements for immigrants.
This encourages illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the country, with the possible opportunity to return legally. This is what must be done to ensure the law is upheld within our country.
