Nasir Stovall, a 2021 graduate of Stony Brook University, has been selected for the 10th class of Schwarzman Scholars. This prestigious fellowship program is known for its competitive selection process, with nearly 5,000 candidates vying for a spot. Stovall joins 150 scholars from 38 countries and 105 universities who will attend a one-year master’s degree program at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The program offers a fully funded master's degree focused on leadership, global affairs, and China. "There are so many healthcare solutions and innovations around the world," said Stovall. "I’m excited for the opportunity to collaborate and learn from a different healthcare system." Upon completion, he will earn a master's degree in global affairs.

Stovall's journey began as part of the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) in high school. At Stony Brook University, he pursued biology while participating in the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP). He emphasized the importance of such programs: “It’s such an important program to bring more opportunities to underrepresented students interested in STEM careers.”

Currently a third-year student at Harvard Medical School, Stovall reflected on his path: “I didn’t think I’d ever get to Harvard,” he said. “But Stony Brook prepared me and gave me the opportunities to network with people who helped me get here.”

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
