Our Correctional Officers (CO’s) have been hung out to dry by Albany's reckless, pro-criminal policies. They are being forced into brutal double and triple shifts, facing life-threatening conditions, and left without the support they deserve.
Meanwhile, Governor Kathy Hochul is doubling down on her disdain for law enforcement and the brave men and women who risk their lives as Corrections Officers.
Keep in mind, that this crisis is the direct result of failed policies that prioritize criminals over the safety of law enforcement and our communities. New Yorkers need to take a stand before it's too late.
Governor Hochul callously insulted Corrections Officers and their families with two statements that prove just how out of touch Albany's progressive elites are.
First, she demanded that CO’s end their justified strike by arrogantly telling them to 'Do your jobs.’
That was her first insult.
The second came not long after when Governor Hochul was blasted for feigning ignorance on why prison strikes were taking place across the Empire State.
“We want to find out what the issue is because the individuals who walked out ... .have yet to tell us the issues,” said Hochul according to Spectrum News.
Our Correctional Officers have been doing their jobs. I know firsthand how horrific their working conditions are, having spoken directly to CO’s, their spouses, and families on their picket line. I would encourage Governor Hochul to do the same.
They have been working brutal 16-hour shifts, forced to work on their days off, and sacrificed time with their families, all the while Albany ties their hands behind their backs.
Our CO's are exhausted, overworked, and disrespected by the very people who are supposed to have their backs.
When these brave men and women leave their houses every day for a shift at the prison, they have no idea how long they’ll be there working, and most importantly, they do not know if they’ll ever even come home again due to the violent nature of the prison environment they toil in.
Where have the Democrats been? Have you seen a single one stand with our officers? If these striking workers were gender studies majors working at a coffee shop demanding higher wages, radical progressives like Governor Hochul would stampede over one another to their picket line so they could pontificate about how the evils of capitalism hurt Ne Yorkers.
No, Governor Hochul stands strong and proud with criminals.
Democrats pushed the HALT Act, which has turned prisons into powder kegs. Even inmates are writing letters of support for Corrections Officers because they see first-hand the disaster Albany created.
I am calling for the immediate repeal of the HALT Act before another tragedy unfolds. Governor Hochul, it’s time you do your job, and fix this crisis that you and your fellow Democrats created..
Albany's disgraceful, pro-criminal policies have reached a tipping point. The numbers don't lie, 1,760 assaults on prison staff in 2024, breaking the previous record of 1,671 the year before. And what have the Democrats done? Nothing.
They have abandoned our correctional officers, stripped them of the ability to maintain order and left them defenseless in a system spiraling out of control.
Make no mistake, this is deliberate.
The HALT Act has emboldened violent inmates while putting our brave officers in danger. Staffing levels have plummeted, officers are being forced into grueling double and triple shifts and morale is at an all-time low.
Governor Hochul, radical progressives, and the Democratic Party in our beloved state willfully put New York citizens' lives in jeopardy for the protection of violent felons.
This is unforgivable. We need an immediate repeal of the HALT Act and we need leadership, something Governor Hochul and Albany Democrats have proven they are utterly incapable of providing.
