William Floyd residents to vote on $78.5M school improvement project

William Floyd School District | Official website

Residents of the William Floyd School District will vote on a proposed $78.5 million facilities capital improvement project on March 26, 2025. The initiative aims to enhance all district buildings without additional costs to taxpayers. This is achievable through New York State building aid, which reimburses nearly 88% of expenses, alongside three voter-approved Capital Reserve Funds.

The voting will occur from 6 am to 8 pm at the William Floyd High School east lobby. Projects include infrastructure repairs and expanded classroom spaces for students.

The Capital Reserve Funds were established with resident approval in May 2021 ($5 million), May 2022 ($5 million), and May 2024 ($10 million). These funds, plus interest earned, cover the local share of costs while state aid reimburses the remaining portion.

A recent five-year building condition survey by the New York State Education Department identified necessary improvements to ensure safety and compliance with state codes. In addition to repairs, the project promises enhancements benefiting both students and the community.

Voting details are available online along with further information about the project.
