A class action lawsuit has been filed against Igloo Products Corp. for allegedly misleading consumers with false claims about the environmental and origin attributes of its products. on January 29, Joe Lieber filed a lawsuit accusing the company of deceptive practices in marketing their coolers as biodegradable, made from recycled materials, and manufactured in the USA.

The basis of the lawsuit revolves around Igloo's alleged false advertising regarding several product lines: ReCool Reusable Coolers, EcoCool Hardshell Coolers, REPREVE Cooler Bags, and other products marketed as "Made in the USA." According to Lieber's complaint, these representations mislead consumers into believing that they are purchasing environmentally friendly products. Specifically, Igloo is accused of making unqualified "biodegradable" claims for its ReCool products without disclosing that these items do not decompose under customary landfill conditions. Similarly, claims that EcoCool and REPREVE products are made entirely from recycled materials are disputed by Lieber, who asserts that only certain components contain recycled content. Furthermore, the "Made in USA" label is contested on grounds that not all raw materials used in these products originate from within the United States.

Lieber argues that these misleading claims have led consumers to pay a premium for products based on incorrect assumptions about their environmental impact and origin. The lawsuit highlights how reasonable consumers were led to believe they were purchasing goods with specific eco-friendly characteristics when this was not entirely true. Citing violations of Federal Trade Commission guidelines and New York General Business Law sections 349 and 350 regarding deceptive acts and false advertising, Lieber seeks damages including restitution and injunctive relief to prevent further misleading marketing practices by Igloo.

The legal team representing Joe Lieber includes attorneys Robert Abiri from Custodio & Dubey LLP based in Los Angeles and Joshua Nassir along with Benjamin Heikali from Treehouse Law LLP located in Santa Monica. The case has been filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York under Case ID 1:25-cv-00488.
