Stony Brook Medicine has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for 2025. This recognition places Stony Brook Medicine in the top 1 percent nationwide for overall care excellence, making it the only institution on Long Island to receive this distinction. The award is shared among Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.

"This distinction reflects our shared commitment across Stony Brook Medicine to bring exceptional care to our patients," said William A. Wertheim, MD, executive vice president of Stony Brook Medicine. "This is only possible when we collectively maintain the highest standards of quality throughout the organization."

Carol A. Gomes, chief executive officer of Stony Brook University Hospital, expressed gratitude towards healthcare professionals for their dedication to excellence. "Our steady increase in rankings — from the top 250 since 2015, to the top 100 since 2019, and now the top 50 for three years in a row — can give patients confidence in knowing that Stony Brook delivers consistent, high-quality care," she stated.

Healthgrades determined the top hospitals for 2025 by evaluating risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Their analysis highlighted significant performance gaps between high- and low-achieving hospitals.

"As one of America’s 50 Best, Stony Brook Medicine is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide," said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of Data Science at Healthgrades. "Healthgrades commends Stony Brook Medicine for their leadership and ongoing commitment to providing the best possible care for all patients on Long Island."

The award follows numerous specialty awards received by Stony Brook last fall, underscoring its dedication to exceptional patient care.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
