BREAKING NEWS: Critically Injured Cop Headed Home

Officer Brendon Gallagher | SCPD

The Suffolk County Police Department announced that critically injured cop Brendon Gallagher is being released from Stony Brook University Hospital on Monday morning.

A laundry list of local politicians, police, and doctors scheduled an 11:30 AM press conference outside the hospital for Officer Gallagher’s official discharge from doctor’s care.

Physicians are scheduled to discuss his road to recovery after he was critically injured in a car crash following a high-speed pursuit of a suspect on the Long Island Expressway last month.

Officer Gallagher, who is assigned to the department’s Street Takeover Task Force, was conducting a traffic stop on January 5th, 2025, when the driver of a Ford Mustang sped past the officer.

Officer Gallagher attempted to pull over the Ford when the driver, who was under the influence of drugs according to police, lost control of the vehicle, sideswiping the police cruiser.

Gallagher’s vehicle left the roadway and overturned, leaving him with critical injuries.

Miraculously, after 22 days in the hospital, Officer Gallagher will be released from the hospital to continue recovering at home. Members of the department will be on-hand to support the officer and wish him well.

This is the second time during his three-year career with SCPD that Officer Gallagher was seriously injured, as he was stabbed during a confrontation in 2022.
