William Paca Middle School to perform 'The Wizard of Oz' Youth Edition

Wizard of Oz | WFSD

William Paca Middle School will present "The Wizard of Oz" Youth Edition on January 24 and 25. The production is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's classic story, featuring a young girl's adventure in a magical land. The school will host three performances, starting on Friday, January 24 at 6 pm, followed by two shows on Saturday, January 25 at 11 am and 4 pm. Tickets are priced at $10 each.

The stage adaptation includes characters and songs from MGM's famous 1939 film version, which showcased the music of Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, with instrumental music by Herbert Stothart. This rendition aims to bring the Land of Oz to life through theater.

Audiences can follow Dorothy and her dog Toto as they journey along the Yellow Brick Road to reach the Emerald City in search of help from the Wizard of Oz. Along their path, they meet witches, Munchkins, talking trees, and winged monkeys. Dorothy also forms friendships with a Scarecrow lacking a brain, a Tin Man without a heart, and a Lion missing courage. Their quest emphasizes themes of friendship, understanding, and hope amidst both beauty and adversity.
