Stony Brook University's Division of Student Affairs has been recognized as one of the 2025 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs. This recognition comes from Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, a publication that focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion within American higher education. The award was given in collaboration with College Student Educators International (ACPA) and includes only 22 colleges and universities across the United States.

Vice President for Student Affairs Rick Gatteau expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment, stating, “While we know how hard our colleagues work to value each member of our team, we are grateful to be recognized by others.” He added that being acknowledged by such a prestigious organization affirms their efforts towards employee happiness, retention, and work/life balance.

The evaluation process focused on workplace diversity, staffing practices, and work environment. It utilized a web-based survey to examine categories including family friendliness, salary/benefits, and professional development opportunities.

This is not the first time Stony Brook's Division of Student Affairs has received this honor. The division was previously recognized in 2023, 2018, and 2015 and received an honorable mention in 2022. Other institutions joining Stony Brook on this year's list include William & Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, and UC Berkeley.
