On December 2, Brookhaven Town officials took action to demolish a long-abandoned property at 691 Horseblock Road in Farmingville. The site, often referred to as a "zombie house," had been vacant for decades and was considered uninhabitable. It had become an eyesore and source of complaints from local residents.
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilman Neil Manzella were present during the demolition process. The town executed the demolition under Chapter 73 of the Town Code, which allows for expedited removal of unsafe structures from neighborhoods.
The financial responsibility for the demolition, including debris removal and land restoration, falls on the property owner. Residents interested in viewing this or other demolitions carried out by the Town of Brookhaven can find videos at www.BrookhavenNY.gov or watch them on Brookhaven Cable TV Channel 18.
