Kevin Meyer Board Member | William Floyd School District

Fourteen students from William Floyd Middle School were recognized for their artistic contributions at the Town of Brookhaven’s Red Ribbon Week art exhibition. These students, all part of Stephanie Taisler’s Art Portfolio class, presented their work under the theme "Living Your Best Life Drug Free!"

The honored students included Ava Asendorf, Mia Cartelami, Willow De Armitt, Hailey Gonzalez, Elijah Lamb, Alwin Leiva, Isabella LaBanca, Isabella Maurer, Kayleigh Rose Moore, Tyler Muniz, Toby Nicosia, Camille Obi, Johhan Reyes and Denise Zhunio-Villacis.

Red Ribbon Week is a national initiative focused on drug prevention. It occurs annually from October 23 to October 31. The Brookhaven Youth Bureau engages in this campaign by collecting photos, paintings, or drawings from Long Island students in grades seven through twelve for its “Brookhaven’s Got Talent” student art show. Participants submitted their artwork for evaluation and selection.

The chosen pieces were displayed at Brookhaven Town Hall throughout October. Additional images can be found in the accompanying album.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
