Brookhaven Lab honors distinguished administrators for exemplary service

JoAnne Hewett Laboratory Director | Brookhaven National Laboratory

The U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory has announced the recipients of the 2024 Distinguished Administrator Awards, recognizing outstanding service in administrative support roles.

Cindi Biancarosa from the Office of Educational Programs (OEP) has been acknowledged for her significant contributions over more than two decades. She has played a vital role in engaging over 100,000 elementary students and numerous high school and college interns. Her leadership was instrumental in transitioning OEP's processes from paper-based to electronic formats, enhancing efficiency. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she implemented virtual internships and facilitated a return to on-site programs. Her work with the "Cut the Red Tape" committee and improvements to account management systems further underscore her impact beyond OEP.

Lynanne DiFilippo of the Collider-Accelerator Department (C-AD) is recognized for over 40 years of dedicated service. As group leader and assistant to the chair, she managed finances during key projects like the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and transitioned administrative functions for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). During the pandemic, she ensured continuity through electronic time reporting and document sharing systems. Her redesign of C-AD’s web presence improved operational efficiency. DiFilippo also fostered a supportive environment for her team, encouraging staff to embrace new roles.

Both awardees have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to enhancing operations at Brookhaven Lab.

The 2024 Employee Awards and VIP Service Celebration on November 13 honored all 359 staff members recognized this year.
