The Sachem Library and “Friends of the Library” program recently hosted Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico for a community forum on what’s happening in the town. For more than 30 years the Friends of the Library group has played an instrumental role in supporting the library and strengthening community enrichment. The group, made up of volunteers, raises money through book sales and offers an annual $500 scholarship to graduating high school seniors who live in the Sachem School District. Their commitment to the community includes generous contributions that improved services inside and outside the library, including: Inside/Out Garden benches, construction of brick entrance walkway, an emergency defibrillator, the gallery display case on lower level, sound and projection system for Children’s Services, and a Clear View on-screen magnifier for the visually impaired.
