Joshua Oltchick, a 26-year-old resident of West Babylon, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for charges related to the possession of firearms and narcotics. The announcement was made by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.

"Every fentanyl pill that this armed prior felon intended to sell in Suffolk County is a potential fatal overdose and, thankfully, our Suffolk County police officers interrupted his crimes with good police work," said District Attorney Tierney. "This ten-year sentence should send the message that we will not tolerate those who sell poison in Suffolk County."

Court documents reveal that on September 16, 2023, officers from the Suffolk County Police Department responded to reports of a man slumped over behind the wheel of a parked vehicle at the corner of 7th Avenue and 15th Street in West Babylon. Upon arrival, they found Oltchick's vehicle facing the wrong direction with its engine running. A firearm was spotted between his legs on the driver's seat; it was later identified as a loaded Beretta USA Corp. .380 auto caliber semiautomatic pistol.

The officer managed to turn off the vehicle's engine and conducted a search that uncovered over 2,700 pressed fentanyl pills weighing 8.25 ounces, along with cocaine and amphetamine packaged for street-level sales. Additional items found included drug packaging materials, dilutants used for extending narcotics supply, two digital scales, two cell phones, and $3,319 in cash.

On October 2, 2024, Oltchick pleaded guilty before Acting Supreme Court Justice Steven Pilewski to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree (a Class A felony) and Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (a Class C violent felony). He received his sentence on November 4, 2024: ten years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. David Adhami represented him legally.

Oltchick has previously been convicted in 2022 for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
