The William Floyd High School girls' varsity tennis team has concluded a successful season, securing their place in the playoffs for the 22nd consecutive year. Under the guidance of head coach David Pia, the Colonials achieved a 10-2 record in League IV and a 14-2 overall standing. Their performance has earned them a No. 4 seed, granting them a first-round bye and setting up a second-round home playoff match on October 22 against either No. 13 Sachem or No. 20 Eastport-South Manor.

Coach Pia commented on the team's efforts: "All of the hard work over the summer got us off to a great start this year and has sustained us through the season." Michael Clauberg assists him as the assistant varsity tennis coach.

The team faced challenges throughout the season, particularly with number one singles player Anabel Van Cott sidelined by an injury since their fifth match. In her absence, other singles players such as Lydia Van Cott, Khloe DiMaio, Trinity Lyons, and Madison Lockwood stepped up their game. The team hopes for Anabel's return for the playoffs.

Doubles teams also contributed significantly to William Floyd's success. Players like Gianna Martin, Drew Wiegand, Olivia Phillips, Tatiana Sanchez, Corinne Neidig, Nadia Da Gama Paes, Rylie Wiegand, Brooklyn Barnes, and Renae Kelly showed improvement and played strong matches.

The Colonials excelled in individual competitions as well; numerous players received honors for their performances this season. Lydia Van Cott, Gianna Martin, and Drew Wiegand earned All-County recognition while Olivia Phillips and Tatiana Sanchez received All-Division accolades. Nadia Da Gama Paes, Corinne Neidig, Rylie Wiegand and Trinity Lyons were named All-League honorees.

Seven seniors were celebrated at their Senior Game after defeating Elwood/John Glenn 6-1. These seniors include Renae Kelly, Trinity Lyons, Brooklyn Barnes, Drew Wiegand Nadia Da Gama Paes Olivia Phillips and Madison Lockwood.

Newsday recognized Anabel Van Cott and Lydia Van Cott among its top 30 girls' tennis players earlier in the season.
