Laura Lindenfeld, Dean of the Stony Brook University School of Communication and Journalism and Executive Director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, recently participated in the 2024 Women in Defense (WID) National Conference. The event was organized by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and took place in Arlington, Virginia.
Lindenfeld was invited by Dr. Arun Seraphin, NDIA’s Executive Director of the Emerging Technologies Institute, to conduct workshops focused on leadership and communication strategies. She expressed her gratitude for engaging with participants at the conference: “It was an honor to interact with these incredible women and to work with Dr. Seraphin again. The Women in Defense conference provided an opportunity for the Alda Center to link our unique communication training approach to the needs of women leaders.”
The WID has been promoting professional development and networking opportunities for women involved in U.S. national security since 1981. This year's conference attracted over 500 attendees from various parts of the country, aiming to enhance their knowledge through sessions led by government and industry experts.
The mission of WID's National Conference is to bolster the defense industrial base by fostering a diverse workforce through education and empowerment.
Stony Brook University’s Office of Federal Relations supported Lindenfeld during her participation at the event, working closely with Department of Defense personnel to further advance research initiatives at Stony Brook University.
