Nearly 200 students from William Floyd High School's Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs recently visited Citi Field. The event was sponsored by the Haugland Group and presented by Sports Power Clean Energy. During their visit, the students participated in a session with Sports Power focused on offshore wind turbines and home energy efficiency simulations. This session aimed to promote workforce development and job exploration in clean energy and technology.
The students also enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Citi Field, which included visits to the media area, watching batting practice, and learning about the history of both the stadium and the New York Mets. They took part in an "In Game Sports Power Clean Energy Photo Scavenger Hunt" as their final activity.
William Floyd CTE program received recognition on the Citi Field jumbotron and during a live Mets broadcast. Participants were given a $25 voucher for concessions or memorabilia before watching the Mets play against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets won 10-6, with one student catching a foul ball hit by MLB star Bryce Harper.
The William Floyd High School CTE program offers various academies such as Automotive, Barbering, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Home Design & Carpentry, Medical Assisting, Marine & Motorsports, and Certified Personal Trainer & Nutritionist. It also provides pathways in Accounting, Architecture, Business Management, Engineering, and Microsoft Office Specialist.
