Stony Brook University hosts inaugural LEGO® competition

Building enthusiasts of all ages showcased their creativity at Stony Brook University’s first-ever LEGO® competition, held during CommUniversity Day on September 28. Participants presented unique LEGO® creations that reflected their vision of community.

The judging panel included Bill Wertheim, executive vice president for Stony Brook Medicine; Carl Lejuez, provost; Carol Gomes, CEO and COO at Stony Brook University Hospital; David Wrobel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; New York State Senator Anthony H. Palumbo; Assemblyman Ed Flood; Council Member Jonathan Kornreich; Mayor of Port Jefferson Lauren Sheprow; Port Jefferson Village Trustee Zena Ugrinsky; and Rachel Joffee, owner of Bricks and MiniFigs of West Babylon.

"Each entry was judged on creativity, originality, and how well it represents the theme," stated the organizers.

The winners were announced as follows:

First Place: Alby He (4th grade) and Irene He (1st grade), both from Nassakeag Elementary School in East Setauket, NY, for their creation "Dreamland."

Second Place: Jeliana Gonzalez (4th grade) from Girls Prep in Bronx, NY, for her work "Heart Lake City."

Fan Favorite: Grayson Finnegan (4th grade) from New Lane Elementary School in Selden, NY, for his piece "The Folks of Fridgetopia."

Winners received Stony Brook University gear and LEGO sets.
