Second-grade students at Tangier Smith Elementary School celebrated "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" on Thursday, September 19. The annual parodic event, initiated in 1995, encourages participants to mimic pirate speech for the day.

Students from Mrs. McGovern, Mrs. Unger, Mrs. McCoy, Mrs. Wingler, Mrs. Romero, and Mrs. Worontsoff’s classes attended in pirate costumes and participated in various themed activities. They read the book "How I Became a Pirate" by Melinda Long, created their own pirate names, and received personalized pirate certificates.

Mrs. McGovern read "How I Became a Pirate" to her second-grade class as part of the day's celebrations.
