The Nassau County Police Department has issued an alert regarding a nationwide school threat circulating on social media, which they have determined to be non-credible.
The department stated, “The Nassau County Police Department has been tracking a nationwide school threat circulating via social media which references a series of escalating incidents culminating with a fire alarm being pulled and a shooter targeting those evacuating. This threat has impacted multiple states. Recently it began circulating in our region. The origin has been repeatedly investigated and was found to be non-credible.”
In response, the William Floyd School District contacted the Suffolk County Police Department, who confirmed that the threat is not credible. There have been no threats directed toward the William Floyd School District.
The district emphasized its commitment to safety and security, highlighting significant investments made to expand its security force. Measures include regular lockdown drills, strict visitor procedures, in-school presentations from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office, and assessments by law enforcement officials from the Department of Homeland Security.
The district reiterated its dedication to working with law enforcement partners to prosecute anyone making threats. Severe consequences will be imposed on students making threats, including long-term suspension or possible expulsion and potential criminal charges.
