Don't Panic, Just Pivot

Few injuries can derail a fantasy baseball season quite like losing Aaron Judge. When a superstar bat is suddenly removed from your lineup for weeks or even months, the instinct for many fantasy managers is to panic. The trade offers start flying, waiver wires get picked clean, and managers often make desperate moves trying to replace one of the most productive hitters in baseball.

The reality is simple: there is no replacing Aaron Judge.

Trying to acquire another elite player often comes at a steep cost. In many cases, fantasy managers end up weakening another area of their roster in the process. If your team has a clear strength—whether it's saves, stolen bases, or pitching depth—you may be able to make a calculated move from that position of strength. More often than not, however, rash decisions create more problems than they solve.

The better approach is to replace Judge's production by category rather than by name recognition.

Judge's greatest fantasy value comes from his ability to pile up runs scored, RBIs, and home runs. While he contributes in other areas, those are the categories that drive his elite value. Finding one player who can duplicate that production is nearly impossible, but finding multiple ways to offset those losses is a much more realistic strategy.

One player worth targeting is Gleyber Torres. The veteran infielder is healthy once again and continues to hit near the top of a productive Detroit Tigers lineup. Because he bats leadoff, Torres consistently generates runs scored, and his fantasy value remains surprisingly affordable in many leagues. He won't replace Judge's power, but he can help close the gap in one important category.

Replacing the home runs and RBIs is a tougher challenge, but Jake Bauers is an intriguing option. Bauers won't match Judge's elite power numbers, but he has quietly produced in the middle of a strong lineup. With double-digit home runs and an impressive RBI total, he offers fantasy managers a low-cost way to recover some of the production they lost.

The key is remaining patient. Championships are rarely won by managers who panic when adversity strikes. Losing Aaron Judge hurts, but smart fantasy owners understand that adapting is often more important than replacing. Make calculated moves, target specific categories, and keep your roster balanced. If you do, your championship hopes can remain very much alive.
