Jazz Loft concert series continues with focus on Latin rhythms

Andrea Goldsmith - Seventh President | Stony Brook University

The Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton will host "The Spirit and Soul of Latin Jazz" on Thursday, July 24. This event is part of The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series, which continues to bring jazz performances to the East End.

The concert will feature Carlos Jiménez Mambo Dulcet, focusing on rhythms from Spain, Cuba, the Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil, and beyond. It aims to highlight collaboration and explore how Latin rhythms have influenced American popular music over time.

Carlos Jiménez leads the band as a skilled flute player and vocalist with a background in jazz, Latin jazz, and salsa composition. He has recorded nine albums and leads the Carlos Jimenez Orchestra at Zona de Cuba in the Bronx.

Curated by Manuel — Jazz Loft founder and Stony Brook University Jazz Department Endowed Artist in Residence Fellow — this series seeks to enrich the Southampton community with jazz traditions. It is part of an effort to revitalize Stony Brook Southampton as an arts hub.

Each performance explores jazz historically and contemporarily through entertainment and education. The Jazz Loft's mission includes jazz preservation, education, and performance. This partnership with Stony Brook Southampton offers residents a chance to experience jazz firsthand.

The final concert in the series titled “Abstract Angularity” is scheduled for Thursday, August 28.

Tickets are priced at $36 for general admission, $33 for seniors, and $18 for SBU students. They can be purchased online.
