William Floyd athletes honored by National Football Foundation

The National Football Foundation's James C. Metzger Suffolk County Chapter recently hosted its annual Scholar Athlete Brunch, celebrating student-athletes for their performance both on the field and in academics. Two students from William Floyd High School were among those honored.

Senior Aaron Fisher was selected as a member of this year's "Golden Eleven" team. Fisher, who plays as a right guard and defensive tackle, has shown excellence not only in football but also academically. He received the Bob Zellner award for being the top lineman in Suffolk County and earned All-Long Island and All-County honors. Academically, he was awarded the James LaBue Award for the county's top scholar athlete with a weighted GPA of 101.5. Fisher is graduating in the top 10 of his class and plans to study mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he will also join their football team.

Junior Ja’Quan Thomas was recognized as part of this year’s Orlin and Cohen "Players of the Week" team. Thomas earned Division I Most Valuable Player honors and shared the Joe Cipp Award for being the county's best running back. He also received All-Long Island and All-County honors and will return next fall for his senior year with the Colonials.

The National Football Foundation was established in 1947 to promote amateur football and honor those who contribute to it positively. It consists of 120 chapters across 47 states with 14,000 volunteer members who support youth development through athletics. The Suffolk County Chapter has been active since 1995, supporting local high school football.

The William Floyd Touchdown Club extended their congratulations to both Aaron Fisher and Ja’Quan Thomas for their achievements, stating: “The entire William Floyd community is proud of your hard work and wishes you continued success!”
