The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, located in the Village of Patchogue, has announced the eight inductees for the class of 2004.

The hard work and diligence that is necessary to become successful in any sport undoubtedly creates character, said Brookhaven Town Councilman Timothy Mazzei. As a Councilman, I am proud that four of the eight inductees are residents of the Town.

Pictured from left to right are Paul Pontieri, Patchogue Village Trustee; George Roth, President of Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame; Councilman Timothy Mazzei; with four of the eight inductees Richard Schmidt, former St. Louis Cardinal; Jack Mahoney, former Wrestling Coach Sachem High School; Peter Cheviot, former Football Coach Seton Hall High School; and Frank Tepedino, former New York Yankee.

The remainder of the inductees, who were unavailable for a photo, include Robert Wenzel; William Shelley, Jr.; David Russell and Steve Park.

The Hall of Fame, which will hold their annual ceremony on May 6th at the West Lake Inn, has been honoring individuals who live in Suffolk and have demonstrated excellence in athletics, for the past fifteen years.
